Group H of the UEFA World Cup qualification concluded with Austria as group leaders. Austria held Bosnia & Herzegovina to a 1-1 draw in the final match to maintain their position at the top and secure a spot in the World Cup.
A chance for Austria to try their tactical game did not go as they wanted when Konrad Laimer received a red card in the 36th minute of the game. Despite the early setback Austria controlled the majority of the game and Sabitzer scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute and Austria won the game 1-0.
Austria began their World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 3-1 win over World Cup debutants Jordan at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. Romano Schmid's 20th-minute opener was cancelled out by Ali Olwan shortly after half-time, but an own goal from Yazan Al-Arab restored Austria's lead before substitute Marko Arnautovic tucked away a penalty deep into injury time to seal the points.
Austria finished second in Group J to qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
