Group D of the UEFA World Cup qualification concluded with France as the group leaders. Les Bleus dominated the group with five wins and one draw to secure their spot in the World Cup.
France played two friendlies against South American opposition in March. They were able to overcome both challenges, with the game against Brazil ending in a 2-1 win which France had to show character as they were left with 10 men. The Colombians were later defeated 3-1.
France opened their World Cup campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory over Senegal in New Jersey, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice to break Olivier Giroud's all-time France scoring record. Mbappé opened the scoring on 66 minutes before Barcola added a second, and though Senegal briefly pulled one back through Ibrahim Mbaye, Mbappé immediately struck again to seal the points and cement his place in Les Bleus history.
France topped Group I to qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
