Qualifying updates, milestone announcements, friendly match details, and the journey to the 2026 World Cup.
Group F of the UEFA World Cup qualification concluded with Portugal finishing as group leaders. A highly competitive group saw Hungary and Ireland push Portugal until the final match. However, the Seleção utilized their vast experience and quality to claim the top spot and secure a place in the World Cup.
Portugal were frustrated by a resolute DR Congo side, conceding a stoppage-time equaliser to draw 1-1 in their World Cup opener in Houston. João Neves had put the Seleção ahead early on, but Yoane Wissa levelled for the Leopards just before half-time despite Portugal dominating 75% of possession. It was a chastening result for Roberto Martínez's side, who managed just 0.64 xG despite 29 touches inside the opposition box.
Portugal finished second in Group K to qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
