In an eventful final game against Argentina, Ecuador shocked the world by defeating Argentina 1-0. The games only goal came from Enner Valencia from the penalty spot at 45'+13. The game also had 2 red cards, one for each team. The match was a true spectacle and Ecuador's performance was a testament to their talent and determination.
A couple of strong tests against New Zealand and Canada helped Ecuador prepare for Summer. Ecuador was triumphant against New Zealand with a 2-0 win, while Canada was able to keep the door closed against Ecuador and ended with a 0-0 draw.
In the spring friendlies Ecuador had a chance to test their squad against Morocco and Netherlands. Both games ended in a 1-1 draw with questions arising about Ecuador's attack as they failed to capitalise on their many chances against a 10-man Netherlands. Although, a strong display of defence in both games will give confidence to the team.
